Seabird Island is located in British Columbia about 60 miles from the City of Vancouver. The Seabird Island Band exists to promote a healthier, self-sufficient, self-governing, unified and educated community, believing that a healthy community is one that has achieved physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and cultural balance. Since its inception as a reserve in-common in 1879, through a designation as an independent band in 1959, and into contemporary times, Seabird has been valued by First Nations and Non-First Nations alike for its rich, arable lands and ideal location within transportation corridors. Seabird Island encompasses 200 homes housing 800+ residents. The main population of Seabird Island is clustered around an impressive community center which hosts daycare, pre-school, elementary school, high school, fire hall, health center and Band offices, as well as multiple grass playing fields and multi-purpose buildings. Some of the more than 50 services include Education, Employment & Social Assistance, Fitness & Nutrition, Health & Wellness, Housing, Membership, and Pre-natal & Early Childhood.
